And we were all yellow

Hi friends.

If you had asked me a few years ago, I never would have told you that I was a fan of the color yellow. I'm more of a cool color gal myself. However, with yellow being all. over. the place like it has been lately, I'm pretty smitten. Apparently I just needed to see it used the right way. That or I'm just a sucker for a good trend. It could go either way, really.

So, when I saw that the Gussy Sews Inspiration Workshop for the month was about the color yellow, I headed over to my trusty Pinterest boards. Here's the goodies I found:

From my style board:

I love the pops of color in this one. Yellow looks great with khaki!

And I'm definitely going to need a yellow cardigan for fall!

I have yellow shoes. I need to wear them more often. Love the yellow with the grey cardi! Apparently I have a thing for yellows and neutrals!

From the home decor board:

Yellow makes such a great accent color! I'm amazed at how many color schemes it works in. I love using it as an unexpected splash of fun in a room.

Like this cute shared nursery/bedroom.

And I'm pretty sure I need a yellow decorative table like Jen's.

How amazing is this pocket door?!

And this may be my new favorite color combination. New living room here I come!

There, now don't you feel all sunshiney and happy after this post? I do!

I even wore yellow today. Fun!

Being Intentional: Date Night Edition

Hi friends!

I'm taking a break from birthday party planning (more on that later!) to talk to you today.

Even though the weekly updates have gone away (sorry about that) I'm still working on my One Little Word for the year: Intentional.
One area that Matt and I have never been very good about being intentional is Date Night. We value our marriage, and know that we need to be spending more fun time together, but it always seems to end up at the bottom of the budget priorities. Sad, but true.
However, date night doesn't need to be pricey, so we really have no excuse! My problem is thinking of fun things to do. Pinterest to the rescue!!

Small Notebook has a great list of  "Pocket Change Date Night Ideas"

I love this idea for a Date Night jar from Life In The Green House! Each stick is color coordinated, and means a different level of planning and expense. Some are at home dates, some are simple, and some are more expensive. I love that it takes the thought out of planning. All I need to know is my budget for the month, and what color to pick! Sweet!

This idea could be expensive to put together at first, but it definitely takes care of all the planning. A whole year of pre-planned and pre-paid date nights! This has the potential to be really pricey, but I think it could be don very well on a budget. Or, you could commit money to it from something like a tax refund or a Christmas bonus. Maybe the adult couples in your family could exchange date nights for Christmas!
Side note: How great would this be as a gift for new parents?! Get some friends together to donate Date Nights with babysitting included! Love it.

Sometimes all it takes is changing things up a bit. Take a normal, every day activity and tweak it a bit to make it feel special.

A great outfit could make a trip to a casual restaurant feel fancier.

And how about some fancy popcorn to make movies on the couch more fun?

I'm off to go plan some dates!

My Style

Hello friends!

I've mentioned it before, but I feel like I'm still working on defining "my style". What does it look like to be in my late 20s, and a mama, and a part-time church employee, and all of the other things that define my life?

Well, lets start at the beginning...what I know I like.

I'm a total sucker for cardigans and scarves. It's a sickness, really. If you went to look at my Style Pinterest board, you would see all sorts of different scarf/cardigan combinations.
If I had all of these things in my closet I would be such a happy camper!

I would like to get a bit more interesting with my scarves. I mean, if they're going to be a wardrobe staple, I should at least change it up a bit, right?

Another thing I would like to work on is adding more patterns into my wardrobe. I think they intimidate me a  bit because I think they're going to make me look large(er?).

Maybe some florals?

How cute is that??

One pattern I've been slowly adding into my wardrobe is stripes. Talk about intimidating! Aren't horizontal stripes supposed to be a no-no?

I've typically been wearing my stripes under, you guessed it, a cardigan! I think it breaks up the pattern enough to keep me from looking wide, but still let's my use the trend.

Another thing I've been loving is taking a neutral outfit, and using shoes as a pop of color. I think it makes staple pieces so much more versatile, which is what I want! I need more bang for my little bucks!

One thing I will master this summer is the maxi dress! I love them, but every one I have tried on so far has made me look like I'm wearing a tent. I read somewhere that there is a maxi dress for every body shape, so I'm bound a determined to find one!

This is definitely a work in progress. Maybe I'll start adventuring with my wardrobe and share it with you guys. What do you think?
