My Style

Hello friends!

I've mentioned it before, but I feel like I'm still working on defining "my style". What does it look like to be in my late 20s, and a mama, and a part-time church employee, and all of the other things that define my life?

Well, lets start at the beginning...what I know I like.

I'm a total sucker for cardigans and scarves. It's a sickness, really. If you went to look at my Style Pinterest board, you would see all sorts of different scarf/cardigan combinations.

If I had all of these things in my closet I would be such a happy camper!                                                        

I would like to get a bit more interesting with my scarves. I mean, if they're going to be a wardrobe staple, I should at least change it up a bit, right?

Another thing I would like to work on is adding more patterns into my wardrobe. I think they intimidate me a  bit because I think they're going to make me look large(er?).

Maybe some florals?

One pattern I've been slowly adding into my wardrobe is stripes. Talk about intimidating! Aren't horizontal stripes supposed to be a no-no?

I've typically been wearing my stripes under, you guessed it, a cardigan! I think it breaks up the pattern enough to keep me from looking wide, but still let's my use the trend.

Another thing I've been loving is taking a neutral outfit, and using shoes as a pop of color. I think it makes staple pieces so much more versatile, which is what I want! I need more bang for my little bucks!

One thing I will master this summer is the maxi dress! I love them, but every one I have tried on so far has made me look like I'm wearing a tent. I read somewhere that there is a maxi dress for every body shape, so I'm bound a determined to find one!

This is definitely a work in progress. Maybe I'll start adventuring with my wardrobe and share it with you guys. What do you think?

Adventures in style blogging?

I don't think I'm a style blogger. Heck, most days I don't even think I have style, but that's something I've been working on. I did the SAHM-jammies-all-day thing, and I did the teacher-on-a-budget thing, but now I want to do the "Why, yes, I am 27!" thing. However, I'm still on a budget, so that doesn't get to involve as much shopping as I would like!
One of my new favorite things to do is belt a cardigan. Thanks, in part, to one of my favorite blogs, Momma Go Round. If you don't know this blog, you should! I love her Real Momma, Real Style posts. Very cute, modest stuff, and completely accessible price points. She loves Old Navy as much as I do...this is a good thing for my budget!

I had tried belting things before, but I always did it around my true waist and it was always a disaster. Hello, pudge! Then I had the genius idea to belt things at a more Empire waistline. Success!! I love it. It's flattering, and more comfortable. It's pretty much become a wardrobe staple.
Here is today's take on it:

I think it's a keeper! I love the green paired with the black and white. I wore my favorite $8 patent leather flats (these things will live forever..seriously! They made it through a year of teaching!), and what I like to call my Hot Mess Mommy bracelet. Throw that baby on with any outfit, and it looks like you thought about what you put on before you ran out of the house! Oh, and can we talk about these jeans? These jeans that retail for $60? These jeans that I got at Goodwill, in perfect condition, for $2.50. If that's not a happy dance moment, I don't know what is!

Oh, and bear with my awful pictures. I live in a basement with NO natural light, and it's raining, and there was no one home to help me out! They'll get better...I promise!
